On November 2, 2024, I hosted our Lightning Talks 4 via Zoom, marking yet another successful gathering of motivated speakers and an engaged audience. Nine talented students took the stage, presenting their carefully crafted speeches to a virtual audience of about fifteen, which included two guest attendees, some current students, and supportive parents of our speakers. The atmosphere was one of excitement and mutual encouragement as each speaker shared their reflections with passion and sincerity.

This year's theme, 「わたしのたからもの (My Precious Treasure)」 or 「わたしを変えた言葉 (The Words That Changed Me)」, resonated deeply with each participant. Each student delivered a unique perspective on their chosen topic, crafting heartfelt stories that were both thoughtful and relatable. Watching these speakers express themselves so confidently in Japanese left a profound impression on our audience, and I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from everyone who attended. Congratulations to each and every participant on an excellent performance — your hard work truly shone!

Since the first Lightning Talks event in 2021, our format has remained simple yet effective. Each speaker is given five minutes to present their thoughts, with the option to use slides if they wish. This format not only supports language learning but also encourages speakers to think, structure, and articulate their ideas effectively in Japanese. It’s incredible to witness how each event brings new growth; as the participants’ language skills improve, so too does the quality and depth of their presentations.

In Lightning Talks 4, four students were specially recognized as standout speakers by our guest audience members for their exceptional efforts. Yet, every participant deserves applause for their dedication and courage, whether it was their first time presenting or their fourth. Each speaker’s journey reflects incredible personal growth and a commitment to mastering Japanese in front of a live audience — a challenge they all embraced with enthusiasm and determination.

I am thrilled to see how each Lightning Talks event has become a reflection of our students' hard work and creativity. This event would not be possible without their dedication, and it’s a joy to see them make it their own. 

With excitement and gratitude, I look forward to organizing the next event in 2025, Lightning Talks 5, and to witnessing even more inspiring speeches. Bravo to everyone who participated — thank you for your fantastic efforts!
